Active Meditation: Increasing Energy

iStock_000001970726XSmal-01.jpgOn the top of your head, right in the centre there sits an energy point called: Si Shen Chong. This acupressure and acupuncture point is renowned for it’s ability to perk you up and increase your energy.

To experience a self-help acupressure energy boost all you need to do is take lightly on this crown energy point for two of three minutes while you breath deeply.

This point is a favourite of my acupuncturist who usually leaves me looking like I have an arial sticking out of the top of my head during my treatment sessions. He recently explained to me that this point is good for raising the chi, and settling the mind.

If you practice lightly tapping on this point with two or three fingers as if you were playing a hand drum, you will soon learn to raise your energy in a very pleasant way.

Enhance Your Focus with Meditation

In a recent study conducted at Pennsylvania University, a group of meditation newbies tried the art of mindfulness over a period of eight weeks and found the meditating regularly improved their abilities in task management and also increased their alertness and focus.

To get maximum results from meditation, regularity is key. Even if you only practice for five minutes at a time, it’s better to do that once or twice a day every day, than to attempt one hour meditation marathons once a week.

So how can you get started?

Meditate - but where?

dreamstime_2770153-01.jpgThe mention of meditation often conjures images of a tranquil setting somewhere out in nature where a blissful looking person sits in the lotus position, undisturbed and fully absorbed.

Yet the fact that many of us are busy working people with only occasional access to the ideal location doesn’t mean that the benefits of meditation are beyond our reach.

Meditation is a state of mind, and that state of mind can happen anywhere. At home, at the office, on a train, in a plane - anywhere. If we wait for ideal circumstances or to find the perfect location most of us we would miss out on the benefits of a few minutes spent in daily meditation. Over the last 20 years most of my meditation sessions have taken place in my home, there have been times where I’ve found myself in beautiful natural settings, but they have been exceptions not the norm.

Stress can pose a real threat to the quality of your life. When you're busy, it's surprisingly easy to slide into feelings of being overburdened, and from there you can easily become irritable and snappy with your loved ones.

Brief spells like this aren't really a major problem, they may ruffle a few feathers in the family home, but if stress levels recover again, things usually settle down - until the next time.

When stress becomes a real problem is when it goes unchecked and starts to accumulate without respite and without release. Once that starts to happen, tempers fray, and poor decisions are made due to lack of clear thinking. And it's here that stress can start to cause significant damage in your life. Poor decision making and hasty choices, usually lead to messy complications which then cause further stress.
